Moving from Pivot Report
The move assistant reads your existing dashboard gadgets, rebuilds each report in RollGrid, and checks the totals match before you throw anything away.
Atlassian ends Connect support on January 31, 2027. Apps built on Connect stop working on Jira Cloud on that date. If your reporting app is Connect-only, moving is not optional — only the timing is.
What this actually is
It is a rebuild, not a migration, and the distinction is not pedantry. Your saved reports live inside the other app's own storage, which no other app can read. Nothing can copy them across. What RollGrid can do is read the dashboard gadgets you have placed — those are Jira's own data — and use them to rebuild each report here, then check the numbers agree.
The move assistant only ever reads. Every call it makes to the old app's gadgets and settings is a GET. It cannot change, move or delete anything belonging to your old app, and it does not try to.
The five steps
Open Jira settings → Apps → RollGrid → Move assistant.
1. Find
Scans the dashboards you can see for gadgets belonging to another reporting app, and lists what it found: which dashboard, which gadget, and which old report it shows. Read-only, and safe to run whenever.
2. Plan
Turns that list into a plan grouped by the old report each gadget shows, so you rebuild each report once however many dashboards it sits on.
3. Rebuild
Two ways in, for each report:
- From a template — pick the RollGrid template closest to the old report and adjust. Quickest when the old report is a familiar shape.
- From an export — if you can still export the old report to Excel, the assistant reads the exported sheet to work out its rows, columns and measures, and builds a matching report.
4. Check totals
The step worth not skipping. Put the old report's totals in beside the new one's and the assistant compares them, naming each measure. Where they differ, the usual causes are:
- Resolved work. The old report may include it and the new one not, or the reverse.
- Roll-up mode. A parent's own story points being counted as well as its children's, or not. See roll-ups.
- Permissions. You and whoever built the old report may not see the same work items.
- Freshness. One of the two is cached. Refresh and compare again.
5. Place
Tells you which dashboard each new gadget belongs on and where. Adding gadgets to a dashboard is something you do yourself — RollGrid does not edit your dashboards.
Do it in this order
- Run Find while the old app is still installed. Once it is gone, so are its gadgets and the only record of how each report was set up.
- Rebuild and check totals for the two or three reports people actually use.
- Put the new gadgets on the dashboards beside the old ones and leave both for a sprint.
- Remove the old gadgets, then the old app.
Do not uninstall the old app until the rebuilds are checked. Uninstalling takes its saved reports with it, and with them the only description of what each one was supposed to show.
Where RollGrid differs
- Reports run as the viewer. Two people can see different totals, correctly. A Connect app running server-side may have shown everyone the same numbers.
- Results are cached for 30 minutes by default, and the age is always on screen.
- A report reads up to 20,000 work items, and says so when it would exceed that rather than reading a silent subset.
- Nothing leaves Atlassian. See security.
