Dashboard gadgets and widgets

Put a saved report on a Jira dashboard, as a pivot or as a progress roll-up.

RollGrid ships two dashboard items, and each works on both the classic dashboards and the newer ones:

  • Pivot — a saved report's pivot tab.
  • Progress — a roll-up with progress bars.

Adding one

  1. Edit the dashboard and add the gadget.
  2. Choose a saved report: your own, or one shared with you.
  3. Pick a slice, if the report has them.
  4. Save. The gadget sizes itself to its content.

Each viewer sees their own numbers

A gadget runs as whoever is looking at the dashboard, with their Jira permissions and their own cached results. Two people looking at the same dashboard can correctly see different totals. Nobody sees work items they could not find in Jira themselves.

If the report is deleted

The gadget says the report was deleted and stops. It does not spin, and it does not show the last numbers it happened to have, because a stale number with no warning on it is worse than a message.

Gadgets and the rate limit

A dashboard with several RollGrid gadgets re-reads several reports every time someone opens it. The cache is what makes that affordable: within the cache window a gadget costs nothing at all. If a dashboard feels slow, the usual cause is several large reports on one page — a longer cache window in admin settings is the first thing to try.
